In addition to the developing CE program, the day will include the second Optometry SUMMIT of 2024 so that we may continue the important discussions had in April's SUMMIT.  We'll end the day (and start the weekend) with colleagues and friends  at our annual seaside social. 

Optometry SUMMIT 2.1 will be designed for every optometrist in our state regardless of the  stage in your career.

The Light Adjustable Lens

This lecture will provide an overview of the light adjustable lens. The lens is the first customizable lens implant on the market, and allows the surgeon to change refraction post-operatively. We will review indications, benefits, and post-operative care.  (Drs. Cook and Newton, 92778-PO, 1 hour)

Updates on Corneal Transplantation

This lecture will review pre-operative considerations, surgical technique, and post-operative care for corneal transplants. Penetrating keratoplasty, Descemet Stripping Automated Endothelial Keratoplasty and Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty will be discussed. Upcoming techniques of injecting cultured endothelial cells will be reviewed. (Drs. Cook and Newton, 92777-PO, 1 hour)

The Building Blocks To A Specialty Contact Lens Cold Start

This course is designed to educate optometric physicians on a guideline of building a specialty contact lens private practice without a pre-existing practice. The course will review what is necessary to get started including paperwork, equipment, and knowledge for specialty patients. The course will dive into types of candidates and how to build a robust referral network. Examples of billing and coding with insurances and how to manage medical necessity will also be reviewed. In conclusion, the course will help providers with a baseline to help start a specialty private practice or a specialty department in a pre-existing office. (Dr. Bhagat, 89533-PM, 1 hour)

Pediatric Eye Exams for ODs  & Myopia Control

Screaming infants,squirming toddlers, difficult adolescents.  These patients present a challenge in examining, diagnosing and managing their care.  This course will provide a review on how to examine those difficult-to-examine patients, how to keep an eye out for amblyogenic risk factors, and when and how to prescribe eyeglasses for kids.  We'll also spend some time reviewing recent myopia control studies and discuss how to implement these interventions into your practice. (Dr. Chan, 92781-FV, 1 hour) 

All things Strabismus

This lecture is packed with all things strabismus. We will begin with an overview of strabismus basics and practice cover testing on the online strabismus simulator! We will then review common pediatric and adult strabismus types and discuss management. The lecture will finish with interesting cases and a look into the future of strabismus. (Dr. Langue, 92780-FV, 1 hour)
